Yesterday, my church sang about the powerful name of Jesus. If ever a spoken word had the power of life and death, it would certainly be the name of Jesus. I taught my children to speak His name whenever they were afraid. If the word on our tongues is the name of Jesus, then we speak a powerful word indeed.
But the name Jesus isn’t the only word with power. Today’s memory verse tells us the tongue has the power of life and death. That means everything we say has an incredible amount of power.
Whether bitter or sweet, whether we like the taste or not, we eat the fruit of the words spoken over us. We also serve this fruit to others with the words we speak to them.
Do we taste life? Do they?
My pastor preached on the power of the tongue this week. I encourage you to listen his sermon, Watch Your Words. I have also taught on Proverbs 18:21. In fact, it is the key message of the book I’m currently writing, Longing to Belong: Discovering the Joy of Acceptance. I can’t wait to share it with you.
